Where magic comes on a metal tray

Many places inspire me to take good photos, I can spot magic in most objects, flowers, buildings… but there’s only one place that literally comes with a ‘magical photo guarantee’. And that guarantee gives me such a kick, I am slowly getting addicted to the place. I am counting the days… it’s only Wednesday night and I catch my mind asking ‘How many sleeps till Saturday?’ By Friday it’ll actually be asking ‘How many hours till it’s market time?’

Yes, I love the atmosphere, the colors of all the fresh fruits and vegetables, the wrinkled hands and faces of the farmers, the cacophony of them shouting to sell their produce, their curious but friendly attitude towards foreigners and the playfulness of the many who already know me from my frequent visits. But what I love most is the open air café at the beginning of the market – a regular parking lot during the week. It’s a bit makeshift really and very, very basic but also very, very charming.

No matter what you place on that table, it’ll look magical on photo. Sometimes I buy things specifically as a prop, but generally it’s whatever I decide to pull out of my shopping bag that turns into instant magic once placed onto one of their often a bit wobbly tables or even better onto one of those small round metal trays they use to serve you.

I’ve photographed my coffee (many times), my freshly purchased village olive bread, the apple I like to have with my coffee, my beer if I come around lunch time, my pistachio nuts… somehow they all have ‘that feel’.

Bring on Saturday so I can experience it once again!
