Easy and cheap party food ideas

No, we are not talking fancy little canapés, we are talking good down-to-earth party snacks to be enjoyed with your good down-to-earth friends. Simple, delicious and cheap party food ideas.

Why cheap party food ideas?

I am generally a price-conscious shopper, but as the hostess of Mary’s Dinner Clubs  and the organizer of many free events/large parties/charity events I’ve become a bit of  a queen of cheap party food.  And if the flavors are right and the atmosphere good, your guests won’t even care if you serve gourmet delicacies or simple, tasty, homemade cheap party food.

Of course prices will depend on the region you live in and the time of year but the ideas for cheap party food below should pretty much work anywhere, anytime.

And to show you that it is really easy to make cheap party food, here 5 finger foods for your fabulous party in a 3 minute video – yes slightly Americanized (or actually it’s from food network Canada) and maybe not featuring the healthiest option but hey, it’s a party! Detailed recipes to the video are also available.

Here a small selection my favorites of cheap party food

  • curries with lentils potatoes or veg in season
  • naan bread or even just pita bread
  • pasta salad with peanut ginger dressing and water chestnuts
  • homemade pita chips with a yogurt dip or hummus
  • little bites made with pizza dough
  • vegetable lasagna
  • cheese quesadillas
  • rice noodle salad
