Incredibly simple pizza dough recipe

Simple pizza dough recipe… and what to do with it

Almost everybody loves pizza -  and it seems we have done so for a long time. Foods similar to pizza have been prepared since the Neolithic age. They had their own simple pizza dough recipe! Records of people adding other ingredients to bread to make it more flavorful can be found throughout ancient history. And basically that’s still all we do today, making bread more flavorful by adding other ingredients…

Or at least that’s how you’ll see it once you’ve realized how easy this simple pizza dough recipe is – after all it’s just flour, yeast and water - the rest is just ... well, hype… but let’s not tell anyone that. Get ready to become a child again because that’s what happens once you get your hands on some pizza dough and some cool ideas - it's play time! Your culinary world will never be the same once you’ll discover how  fun and totally versatile cooking with this simple pizza dough recipe is.

I’ve actually had several simple pizza dough recipe breakthroughs at Mary’s Dinner Club that I’d like to share with you. The first time I made little bite-sized snacks with pizza dough they turned out to be such a big success that I have since build a whole repertoire of simple pizza recipes snacks.

 Simple pizza dough recipe ingredients

  • 400 grams flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt (preferably herbal salt or salt + garlic powder)
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • 200 ml warm water

Simple pizza dough directions

Mix the yeast and sugar in a bit of the warm water and leave in a warm place until it gets bubbly (about 15 min)

Mix flour, salt and oil, pour in the yeast mixture, start mixing with a wooden spoon and add the rest of the water (pour it in slowly as you may not need it all)

Knead to a smooth dough, put into a bowl, cover with a kitchen towel and let rest in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 30 min)

For bite sized snacks you roll it out and… play!

Fun things to make with your simple pizza dough

1) You can spread a tomato, olive, cheese mixture on it, roll the whole sheet up tightly into a roll and cut it into slices of about 1 cm. Place the little rounds on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for about 15 minutes at 180° C.

2) Cut the dough into squares of about 6×6 cm, spread some olive paste on them and roll them diagonally.  Brush some egg on top and bake as above.
