Great ideas for fresh fig recipes

I had never thought much about actual fresh fig recipes until my passion for photography started… it’s fig season here and I keep going out to get more of this luscious purple beauty for more photographic experiments. And then… well I eat them and that’s when I started looking up how to ‘cook’ with them.

Judging by the sheer number of gorgeous fig photos online I am not alone with my opinions that figs are one of the most luscious fruits ever. And they are healthy - high in dietary fiber, calcium and potassium.

Apart from the most common choice to have them with cheese and in pies and jams you may want totry these ideas for fresh fig recipes:

  • having them with your pasta
  • dipping them in melted chocolate
  • having them in your cocktails or sangria
  • baking, roasting or grilling  them
  • tossing them in your salad
  • slicing them on your toast/sandwich
  • turning them into a savory spread/dip
  • making a chutney
  • preserving them in rum

On of my new favorite fresh fig recipes is Gorgonzola-fig quiche


  • 250 g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 125g butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Mix into a dough, wrap in foil and put in fridge for 30 minutes

For the filling:

  • 150g Gorgonzola cheese
  • 250 g sour cream (or strained yogurt)
  • 3 eggs
  • Mix sour cream, cheese and eggs
  • 500 gr figs cut  in half lengthwise for topping


Roll out pastry dough and line pie dish with it Pour in cheese-yogurt-egg mix Place the figs on top with the cut side facing up Bake at 200°C for about  40 min and serve cold or at room temperature with a mixed green salad
