Looking to make a positive change

Andrey and Julia Dashin, the founders of their eponymous charitable foundation, moved to Limassol in 2012 with their three children. The successful business couple from the Russian city of Kazan made the island their second home and decided they wanted to make a contribution which would benefit the island’s residents. The sentiment that we should all help the less fortunate because it is our personal responsibility as human beings led them to create the Foundation in May 2014.

The founders

Andrey Dashin is a very prominent businessman in the global financial sphere. He formed his first company, Alpari, in 1998 and his second, Forex Time (FXTM), in 2012. In 2005, he had founded the Alpari Charitable Fund which is exclusively dedicated to helping orphaned and disabled children.

Philanthropy plays a significant role in his life and he dedicates a vast amount of his time and energy to raising money for children in need. Andrey’s wife Julia worked in finance management and as a columnist and TV presenter. Having set anchor on the island, she supports her husband’s initiatives to give something back and make a difference in the lives of those in need.

The foundation supports a wide range of causes and one of the first events it sponsored was the environmental project ‘Let’s Do It Cyprus’. Looking to promote a healthy lifestyle, Dashin’s FXTM is the official sponsor of the Pan-Cypriot biking chain ‘Next Bike’.

Andrey is also a boxing fan, supporting a local boxing club, now the FXTM Aravis Boxing Team, offering youths the opportunity to participate in international competitions.

The foundation’s core objective is to extend a helping hand to any cause of genuine need in Cyprus and aims to encourage the act of volunteerism, asking people to participate in charity projects. It is also working with other foundations like the Dancing Queen Foundation and the Cyprus Autistic Association.

Over 600 Christmas presents

Wishing to make Christmas happy also for those less fortunate, the foundation created the initiative  ‘Letter to Santa Claus’ held in conjunction with the charity cause ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’, whereby in an ongoing competition the best letters and illustrations to Santa Claus were announced.

The grand prize winners of the competition will receive their Christmas present from Santa himself, who will be coming to pay a visit to the children’s household through December 27. Over 600 presents are expected to be given out.

“Children’s letters and requests are at times quite unpredictable, but at the same time their pleas are often very touching and emotional – like a confession – and we are happy to make some of their wishes come true.” says the founder.

Flying Superkids of Denmark

On January 16 and 17 (in Nicosia and in Limassol respectively) the famous children’s acrobatics group ‘Flying Superkids’, an elite team of 29 performers will surprise children and adults alike with spectacular acrobatics. The troupe is aged five to 17 from a Danish gymnastic club and non-profit organisation founded in 1967 and a large number of performance tickets will be allocated for children living in difficult economic situations through the Dashins’ Foundation.

The show is a high tempo mix of acrobatics, gymnastics, dancing, singing, comedy, tumbling and twists, and summersaults on trampolines and other equipment. It is accompanied by an impressive light show and a uniquely composed soundtrack, certain to start the New Year off on a joyful note and set the tone for a year of more charitable actions through the foundation.
