Getting into the Christmas spirit with gingerbread houses and pine wreaths – a pre-Christmas celebration for all

The German-speaking Protestant Parish in Cyprus is once again preparing for their annual Christmas bazaar to be held on November 28 from 11am - 3pm at the Germasogeia cultural Centre in Limassol.

The event, which has become an annual pre-Christmas highlight for community members and non-members, features traditional German baked goods, arts and crafts and sausages brought from Germany especially for the occasion. There are also gingerbread houses and pine wreaths, made ahead by a group of crafty volunteers each year.

The venue for the festivities, which are often the occasion for a family day out, is in the Germasogeia community centre’s compound which offers a large lawn and outdoor seating and enclosed areas for the buffet. There are also tables with bric-a-brac from the churches’ charity shop The Vintage Corner on Ayia Filaxeos Street.

Proceeds of the event will be divided among various charities including the Paphos soup kitchen and the Germasogeia village social fund.

The church, which exists in Cyprus since 1996, has around 100 members and its pastor Johann Weingärtner also holds masses in Paphos, Larnaca, Nicosia and Agia Napa. Information on these and on the different events can be found at
