Gearing up for the Wine Festival 2015

Skevi Antoniadou has been the new Cultural Officer of Limassol’s Municipality since April and has had a busy start; she is currently fully immersed in the preparations of the upcoming 54th Limassol Wine Festival, taking place from August 27-September 6.

Antoniadou, a Limassolian with two grown-up sons, has been working in the Cultural Department of the municipality since 1987, when she was still studying. She has always liked the arts and culture and is a passionate singer and member of the Dream Choir. In the little free time she has, she likes walking her dog and being with her family.

She says she enjoys her job immensely which has kept her very busy, especially since April. Until this year, she had been doing the ‘behind the scenes work’ for the wine festival from her office. This is the first time she is actually involved in all the onsite work. Antoniadou confesses that she depends on the much-appreciated support of her knowledgeable colleagues, who’ve been actively involved with the festival site for many years.

More arts and artists

The new officer is trying to bring even more arts and artists to the event. Special additions this year include a photography competition called ‘Cyprus and Wine – the Wine Festival 2015’ (the results of which will be exhibited at next year’s festival) and the Cypriot music group Antama performing at the closing ceremony on September 6.

Antoniadou emphasises that the celebrations are an open invitation to everyone – Cypriots, tourists and anyone who calls Cyprus home – to come and try Cypriot wines, celebrate and promote them.

She is looking forward to the festivities and to bringing even more cultural events to the community. “It is rewarding to provide enjoyment and keep people smiling through cultural activities,” Antoniadou says.

A detailed programme of the festival, which will be opened on August 27 by Commerce Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis after an address by Limassol Mayor Andreas Christou and a performance by the Georgaletti choir, featuring Greek soloist Thanos Polydoras and maestro David Nachmias, can be found on the municipality’s website:www.limassolmunicipal.com.cy/wine.

A full article on the event will be included in the next edition of the Cyprus Weekly.
