So what's a 'Greengage'

It turns out that's what these little beauties are called - and why? Because according to Wikipedia, "Green Gages" were imported into England from France in 1724 by Sir William Gage. It's obviously a kind of prune, but smaller than the better known mirabelle prune. But whether it's a mirabelle or a prune or a gage... they are delicious!
