The beauty of a Mediterranean breakfast

So when you live in Cyprus, what do you have for breakfast? A (very) Mediterranean breakfast. Ok, this is may not be considered  a 'real' breakfast by some, but in my case I like it light in the morning... it's freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and some almonds and a nice strong coffee. Bliss!

The health benefits of this Mediterranean breakfast - apart from the ball your taste buds will have.

And do you know how healthy it is for you to have the juice of two grapefruits in the morning?

This juicy fruit contains citric acid, natural sugars, essential oils like limonene, pinene and citral. It has high amounts of vitamin C, and smaller amounts of vitamin A, B complex, E and K.

In the mineral department, large amounts of calcium, folate, phosphorus, and potassium are found. The nutritive phytonutrients of this voluptuous fruit - liminoids, flavonoids, lycopene and glucarates - help fight cancer and various diseases. So first of course comes the coffee - nice and strong with its initial bitterness fading into a soft comforting blanket filling your mouth. The pleasantly bitter taste lingering and the slight creaminess of the milk flying on the roof of your mouth like fluffy white clouds on a calm summer day...

Then the sweet oils of the almonds hits your taste buds making you savor each bite's crunch as a nutty stream of almond bits floats around your mouth revealing new tastes at each bend.

And then you have a sip of grapefruit juice and the excitement of the fruit's tanginess seems to be travelling all the way up to the top of your cheekbones like the rays of a bright and early sunrise.

The best way to experience this field day of your taste buds? Try it! Have some freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and a handful of almonds for your next breakfast and your mornings will never be the same!
