A year ahead filled with music and art

The Rialto Theatre is Limassol’s largest indoor theatre. With seating for 567, it is in its 16th year of existence since its reopening in 1999 and is getting ready for a busy year ahead.
The theatre was founded as a non-profit organisation by the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank and is sponsored by the same organisation. It offered a culturally-rich 2015 with world-class operas, theatrical performances and innumerable dance and musical events. This year is set to offer more cultural highlights from across the artistic spectrum.

Classical meets rock

From January, the Rialto presents a cycle of concerts entitled ‘Classics Reloaded’ with the marriage of compositions of different genres presenting young artists who build new musical forms using modern technology and classical instruments.

The theatre’s World Music Series will be featuring international music starting with the musicians Haig Yazdjian, Giotis Kiourtsoglou, Vangelis Karipis on February 2.
During February, there will be a photographic exhibition by students of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology entitled ‘Fresh Pics’ inside the theatre.

Cinema will once again play a prominent role starting February 3 and 4, with award-winning Greek films of Greece’s leading short film festival in the town of Drama, which will travel to Cyprus for the occasion.

March 18-20 will see the annual Contemporary Dance Platform, offering new contemporary non-commercial dance creations, which have not yet been presented in Cyprus or abroad.

Cyprus Film Days

April 15-24 will feature the Cyprus Film Days 2016-International Film Festival – another annual festival that aims to promote International and Cypriot cinematography, to support and project the work of independent creators, to highlight new talents.

June will see the 11th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival – one of Limassol’s favourite summer festivals at Heroes Square, kicking off its second decade on the day of music, June 21, with music originating beyond the eastern Mediterranean region.

The European Contemporary Dance Festival will also take place in June, hosting interesting and renowned dance groups of Europe and Cyprus, presenting contemporary dance trends, creations and waves, highlighting and presenting the contemporary dance evolution to the Cypriot audience.
